2008 Chev 2500hd Tires

I apologize if this has been asked, I was only getting errors when I would search and i couldn't find an answer in the other tire threads.

 

Has anyone tried putting 285's on a new 2008 chev 2500HD. My last 2 HD's (both last model) were able to fit them with either doing nothing or a slight trim. A guy at the dealership told me that to put those tires on I would need to add a small lift to the truck, but I think I heard that for my last truck as well and never had to. I would rather not lift it.

They will fit but you might have to crank the torsion bars a few cranks to clear also if your going with stock width rims the center of the tires will be rounded out making the tread wear fast in the middle of the tire. When I had my 2500HD Dmax I didnt like them cause when towing and hauling the truck swayed cause of the rounded center on the tires. Low tire pressure made the sidewalls flex to much and the higher made the center of the tire round and still swayed so I was screwed eather way. I removed and sold them and went back to the stock 245s as I didnt want to buy wider rims, I liked how the stock rims look.

I think you'll have to crank the bars or lift to fit them. I just went up to a 265 and got a slight rub at full turn with slight compression. On level ground they don't rub at full turn. They rub on the plastic liner so I think if I pull the liner back a little with a wire tie I'll be alright.

i asked my dealer if they would fit and they said they would with trimming. then i talked to a guy who had put 285's on and cranked his torsion bars and he confirmed that they needed to be trimmed. I also have 285's on my truck but i installed the ready lift kit ($229) and they don't rub. i am also using the stock 17" wheels. i wish they were the polished 16's! i like them better.

I've got 285/75R16's on the stock steel rims and the Truxx Leveling Kit. I went with the Nitto Terra Grappler.

 

I had a tiny rub that I fixed by pulling back the fender liner. I also had to take off the molded mud flaps I had and went to a rubber one.

 

I was going to go with a 285/70R17 but the stock 17" wheels I ordered off E-bay got damaged in shipping

what is the difference between a leveling kit and a small lift kit like the one mentioned "ready lift kit"

 

also, does cranking the torsion bars affect anything?
