Ecm Replacement

I tried to find this in search before I came here to ask, but found nothing. Anyhow, what is involved in putting in a new computer, can a dumb ass like me do it, or is this something that should be done by a pro? All diagnosis of my newly named truck "Christine" points to a faulty ecm. I have a '99 C2500 with 159+k on the 5.7 engine. If this has been on here before, sorry about bringing it up again, and if so, can you post a thread. Thanx. I just want the demons to go away, and give me my truck back.

It has to be the correct P/N PCM and the correct calibrations for your truck. They are VIN sensitive.

Thanks for the reply. Does a dealer have to do this, or can it be done at a reliable garage? I got the ecm from a Carquest dealer, so I'm pretty sure it would be the right one.

A dealer can, but if you bought the PCM from Carquest they should be able to down load the cal's or a good shp can.

I have the same problem with my 98 silver diesel, the chevy dealer quoted me $550.00 to replace the ecm. I'm trying to save some money if possible. So after the calibration is the rest simple enough to do?
