Running 12s With A 94 Silverado Ecsb

I have been thinking about having a little fun with my 94 Silverado specifically related to drag racing. What do you think it would take to get the truck into the mid-12s? I know, I know, take the weight of the vehicle and figure out the horsepower needed. Personally, I think it's more fun to discuss on a board like this. Here are six basic requirements:

1) Has to still pass emissions...even if barely.

2) Has to be somewhat streetable should make #1 a lot easier

3) No diesel conversion

4) Small block would be cool but no problem with a big block

5) Obviously, a budget is in play here because you can run as quick as your wallet is fat. So, I was thinking less than 6k. If this is unattainable, explain how much it would take.

6) All of the work performed would be done by either me or friends so, labor would not be a problem.

Here's what I would think:

1) Rebuild the 4L60 to be bullet proof

2) Rebuild the rear-end with 4:10s and again, bullet proof

3) a) 383 with some sort of forced induction

b) 502 with a small shot of nitrous

4) Upgraded fuel system

5) Brake upgrade

6) Suspension upgrades

7) ???

Thoughts? I don't know if I'll be able to do this or not but, I figure it would be neat to see what everyone thinks.

It's gonna take a TON of power and something stronger than the OEM rearend to get an Excab Silverado into the 12s. I think the 502 with a 150 shot would be a good start.

I figured the weak point would be the 10 bolt but...I wondered what everyone else thought. Bullet proof junk yard 12 bolt wouldn't be a problem either.

Keep the replies coming.

BTW...here is what prompted this (I was there and saw this run):

My freind has a 94 reg cab short bed .It runs like 12.1 on motor and 11 flat on a 150 shot.He has a 383 stroker with a turbo350 tranny.Stock 10 bolt rear with 4:11 gears and i think a detroit locker and caltrac tractions bars. With this same combo I would think you could run high 12s on motor and maybe high 11s on a 150 shot.

A Baldwin Motion Camaro ran 11 something in the quarter off the sales floor back in the day with shi!!y tires, i think your asking alot out of your truck for just a stroker motor and low gears. I do think it can be done though, i bet a blown 502 would be a good choice but that would be pushing your budget with motor alone.

STS turbo with intercooler on a solid 350, shed as much weight as possible, fat stickies in the rear, exhaust cutouts, built and solid TH350, solid rear axle with a locker, dyno tuned

just a guess :( good luck

i vote for the 383 stroker. I have a 350 block w/4bolt main in the garage, with a turbo 400 trans just sitting there. Thats my plan when i get some cash. build it to work with a 6-71 weiand blower and you'll be laughing. you dont need a 502.... well who wouldnt want one thou... :(

One of the guys over at AF.com has a 99 Silverado Regular cab step side. He dumped a 6.0 L in it with NOS and turns High 11s at the track.

Here is profile page on AF

And his signature.

Daily Driver- 00 Camaro SS A4 1/4- 12.30@118mph 2.14-60ft on street tires

Weekend Warrior-99 Silverado "Dirty" 1/4-11.63@118mph 1.8-60ft

So yes it's possible but, I know that Slow put a TONNE of work into that truck.

I honestly wondered about the 350 with a turbo option but...I figured I would only get close (big savings here though...rebuild what's in it). That's why I figured the 383 would be the sure thing. Like realdeal posted, maybe a 383 with a 150 shot and a turbo 350? However, wouldn't a bullet proof 4L60 with a decent stall be the better option? Seems like the extra gear would enhance the truck's driveability.

What sort of fuel system would everyone recommend? I know a carb would be by far the easiest and cheapest but, fuel injection would be nice to stay with. Although I know the TBI will be about out of the question...what about a MPFI conversion?
