tcracing425ex Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 what is the REAL differences between the two of them? and what advantages do the max have if any?
gvbhunt Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 With the Max package you get the Vortec Max 6.0L engine that has AFM and VVT. Along with that you are able to get the MAX towing package which increases your towing capacity to 10,500 lbs, gives you a heavier 9.5" rear end and transmission, disc brakes in the back, and of course all the other towing goodies that come with that package. Oh yea, and that kickass red badge on the side of the truck....

Oh yea, and that kickass red badge on the side of the truck.... Clarification: You do NOT need to get the Max Trailering Pkg (NHT) with the 6.0 in order to get the 9.5" HD rear end and rear disc brakes. All Vmax 6.0's (with or without NHT pkg) get the same drivetrain (4L70E tranny, HD 9.5" rear end) and rear disc brakes (assuming you get Stabilitrak). The 6.0's also get external engine oil cooling, external tranny cooling and the engine has a deep-skirt, 6-bolt main block. The NHT pkg means you get G80, 4.10 gears and beefier springs. Non-NHT Vmax's get 3.73 gears and the G80 must be ordered ala carte, as well as the HD trailering pkg. NHT trucks ONLY come with 17" wheels also.
zxcv Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Whoa Whoa... what? Does that mean I've got the 4L70E and the 9.5" HD rear end because I've got the HD Trailering package!?

Then you can upgrade to 20s because the 17s are too small. Then you decide the 20s are too big, so you go to 16s. Isn't that right Jeff?

tcracing425ex Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 well i understood some of that lol. what is the 9.5 rear end? and NHT? so the MAX is pretty much the same as a 1500HD?

NHT is the RPO (regular production optioni) code for the Max Trailering Package. I believe the 1500HD has a heavier frame.

Correct, plus the HD front axle (8 lug hubs) and the full floating rear diff, as opposed to the semi floater in a VMax

I don't have the NHT pkg, I have the 3.73's so I was able to give them $1200 to upgrade to 20" wheels so I could sell them for $900 a year later after I realized 20" wheels are total CRAP!!!
xGMCx Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Nobody's said it yet... gas mileage, if that matters to you.

You still got 9000 miles out of them. $300 bucks to look cool for that long is a steal of a deal
tcracing425ex Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 what difference are we talking in gas mileage?
VMax2007 Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 what difference are we talking in gas mileage? 1-2 MPG....tops.
