My guess is probly not, my 08 GM Performance Parts Catalog says for 1916528 LS 327/327

*Not for AFM applications*

*Intended for pre-1979 street vehicles or any off road vehicles*

But it also says *Applications Have not been varified*

It`s weird how in the engine description it talks so much about the trucks these 5.3s were in, but it doesn`t directly say its a legal replacement. So i guess just like the catalog says *Refer to state and local ordinances*

Plus i looked at alot of dealers for those GM engines and they seem to be selling it as a direct replacement, don`t get me wrong it would be SWEET!! but usually engines with 9.5:1 compression ratios are probly pushing the emmisions abit!

"This crate engine is a " Drop-in" replacement for the 1999 - 2006 LM7 5.3L V8 found in the 1999-2006 C&K full size trucks."

332hp/352lbs. nice... Give it a good pcm tune and your looking at 350hp.

There's GoodWrench Crates and GMPP Crates.

The GoodWrench are usually rebuilts with a very nice warranty, even if you install it.

The GMPP usually are NEW and are the "hot" or never offfered in production vehicles, performance engines.

It looks like this on is GEN III 5.3L that is the top of the pile in performance for the generation and displacement.

Other than the cam profile is FI and probably would need to be changed, there are carb intakes available for the LSx engines. Then the ignition system requires and aftermarket system. Then you could drop it place of where a 305/350 was for pre 88.

But for 96-00 Vortecs, $1500 more gets a 48 state legal 383 torquer as a 350 replacment. It'll fit other years prior, you'd just need all the misc GEN I version 2 (otherwise known as the 86+ one piece rear main seal block) parts like intake, flywheel etc.
