A/c Stays On Only With The Recirculation Button On

I recently noticed a strange thing with my truck. When I started the truck the other day, the A/C came on, when the A/C button was not pressed in or lit. Only the recirculation button was On and lit. This does not appear normal. Are these two buttons combined as a unit? In my opinion, the recirculation button should be completely independent of the A/C button. As least that is the way I remember it working on this truck. Is ti possible that I have a bad A/C switch/recirculation switch combo?

i think that is normal and if i remember correctly it did to mine the other day. i don't remember on mine but did u notice if ur snowflake was lit

No, the A/C (=snowflake button) was not lit. Only the recirculation button was, and the A/C came on. This is odd, because in my other vehicles, only A/C button will turn on the A/C, independently of the recirculation button.

I've discovered this yesterday. I'd turn off the 'snowflake' and turn on the recirculation button. For the longest time, the air stayed cool. I'm wondering if the coils are cold enough to sustain that cold air I'm feeling. Rather using outside warm air, I let the blower push the cold in the cab. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Since I rarely use the AC(don't need to in Minnesota) I noticed the same thing last week. Had the air and recirculation on at the same time(due to it being hot and something stinky outside). Turned off the AC, left the recirculation on and it kept blowing cold air after about 30 minutes I switched to outside air and it started to blow warmer air.

 

Not sure why this is, my best guess is that some rocket scientist figured that it would be better to blow cooler air on recirculation.

Yeah,I noticed this just yesterday too.The a/c definetely comes on when recirc is on and the a/c switch was off.I don't think my '99 was like that.Whew,I've had the truck over a year and just figured this out
