Here are a couple of pictures of my 04 HD with about 2.5 tons of gravel in the bed. The truck was riding on the bump stops. And how much did it cost you ask. About 16 bucks.

 

 

Need some D load tires or better.

That's a load. I would go with an "E" load range if your going to haul like that.

I'd also consider some overload springs along with the E-range tires. It's dangerous to go THAT far over your GVWR. I'm surprised they let you put that much in there.

 

FWIW, I've helped my dad put about 6k lbs in the back of his dually and it still sat level...What does that tell you about the 11,500 lbs GVWR they put on those trucks?

It wouldn't be so bad if more of the stuff was AHEAD of the rear axle.

 

I was at the local gravel yard one day and the owner of this 1/2T P/U was arguing with the bobcat driver. The bobcat guy said that he wouldn't dump the bucket load into the P/U. the P/U guy got madder and madder. He paid for it and he wanted it all. Bobcat guy stood his ground.

 

P/U guy got the manager.

The manager said to dump it.

 

The P/U got about 1/2 mile and we heard this big THUNK.

Yep ... busted axle and bent frame.

 

Hey, I've loaded beyond the design engineer's worst nightmare but usually spread out the load 'tween the front n rear.

 

You've heard the sayin' ... she'd have to make 2 trips to haul arse.

Overload springs do not increase the frame/axle/tire carrying capacity ... just not sag as much.

This is only a once in a long while thing. This was not a bobcat doing it either. It was a Full size Cat front loader. He had no way of directing which way to dump it. I normally don't haul much over 11,000lbs so D loads would be fine. Sure as hell beats the C load, and the one odd Passenger tire. Went to get a rock takin out of my tire and discovered it was a Passenger tire.

It was pretty weird to have the truck sway back and forth because the front tires didn't have enough weight on them. And normally what I tow doesn't really squat the truck to bad. I really don't need helper springs. Maybe just some airbags, but thats mainly for better ride quality. The tires are coming and soon, as soon as I can get the $850 for them.

ahh dont listen to them..........it takes a real man and a real truck to haul like that.. anybody can haul with extra leaf springs and e range tires or a bigger truck lol j/k fun picture though

I had D range tires on my 2500hd (BFGs. 285/75r16) and it never squatted like that...Then again, I never had about 5,000 lbs of rocks in the bed. The only time I ever squatted it to that degree was when I had the company job box (and this was one of the full size ones, you could fit 6' levels in there with room to spare) on the bed...And it was full of tools.

I would have except it was 4:30 and I didn't have time to run to a buddies place and borrow one before they closed. And the folks wanted that gravel that day. It was ok, got new tires out of it.

Well I couldn't have put more in. That P265/75 had a max rating of 40 psi, and the others had 44 psi (C load). I had them all up to 50 psi. Waskly wabbit ain't I.

Don't know that I ever saw a 2500HD squat like that! Bet it was a pain in the ass to clean the bed out.

Just workin you over a little. Actually, no harm done doing that a time or two. I don't think I'd make a habit out of it!
