Alignment

Every time i get new tires i get them balanced and get in alignment within the first 1000 miles. I seem to have a wear problem on the outside of the front passenger tire. The tire gets chopped to hell and back before i realize it and then the shops say its too far gone to realign. Is this a common problem? Are there any preventative measures? I hate wearing out tires one at a time. I rotate but it happens again.

Either camber or toe-in. Not every shop does a good alignment.
