Does anyone know where to find the aluminum block GM created as a replacement? I've inquired about it through the Performance Parts division and all they told me was I'd have to find an aftermarket block. So I'm looking for an aluminum block, and aluminum heads for a RWD vehicle. I'm wanting to reduce engine weight for when I had a lift kit and a winch to the front.

WOW... that's gonna be a HUGE expense to save 30 or 40 pounds. I'd buy stiffer springs and spend the money elsewhere unless you intend to build a monster power motor.

Well it doesn't have front springs. Its for a 91 Isuzu Rodeo. I've been thinking about changing from the 60 degree block to the 90 degree block since most of the parts swap out with the small block chevy. Most people don't know that the older Isuzu vehicles used a GM engine. The problem is the 3.1 seems to only put out like 120 horses with about 150 ft lbs of torque. I know I could build it up, but the transmission can only stand so much, and its hard to find and nearly impossible to beef up. So by swapping out to the 90 degree block I can use a regular 4L60-E transmission and get it to put out more, and not have the weight of a V8 block. Always fun to have a vehicle that people expect to suck, but has that secret under the hood and able to shrug them off as an afterthought.

That makes somewhat better sense. Nothing like an unusual project. Even with additional weight, you should be able to crank the torsion bars a bit and run a top notch shock. All should be good.

Good luck.

I think I may adapt the 90 degree into it. Parts are cheaper, and the transmission is so much cheaper and easier to get. Though by doing that it won't give the gas mileage I wanted. But any improvement is better than nothing. And if I can get it to put out 300-350 horses it would be better than any other on the roads today. That would also put it in the runnings with these full size trucks, but shouldn't have the weight they have. If I rememeber correctly it only weighs in at 3800 lbs. I'm trying to keep it light to keep a good power to weight ratio.
