Battery Light Just Came On....need Some Advice

Hi everyone,

 

Went out to take my truck down the road today and the battery light came on in the DIC when I started it...the battery gauge in the dash is reading approx 11 volts...the middle of my gauge indicates 14 and the needle is around the half way mark between zero and 14......everything works fine and if I turn all accessories on including AC my gauge still stays where its at.....now the battery is quite new and I charged it just to see if that was the problem but I dont think its the battery.....is it possible for the alternator to go bad and just charge to 11 or so volts?......every vehicle I have ever had, when the alternator went on it it was shot, never just kinda shot.

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd get the alternator checked. AutoZone or Pepboys can do this for free if you don't have the equipment. I don't have too much faith in factory gauges in terms of actual voltage reading.

Not yet.......I need to find a place here(Canada) that can test the alternator for free.....II really dont want to get hosed 50 0r 60 bucks just to get it tested.

I know this is old, but NAPA and I believe Canadian Tire can test.
