Driving With Vibration Problems

I found this old thread on this board... but it doesnt has the final answer...

This is part of the final answer:

 

..................I've found low-speed problems: bent wheel(s); high-speed problems: tires. Sometimes a slightly bent wheel can fool the balancer and create the high speed vibration.

 

 

they are the only problems, (bent wheel and tires) ??

 

I have the same problem now... I'm now in El Paso TX, and I drove from Calexico,CA on my 02 Sierra 1500 HD Crew Cab 4x4 Automatic 6.0L... about 10 hrs... and We finished with head ache... on low speed 60 and less it feels like hard suspension.. every bump feels so hard... 65 and up high speed the vibration is very annoying... more speed more vibration..

 

How to isolate the problem ?? Tires, shocks, Wheels, Driveshafts, CV Joints, etc

 

I recently bought it... and it has:

 

 

 

  • Bilstein Shocks ... Front are doubles with reserve.. They are short version from the upper control arms to the upper oem shock base... and rears are singles.. I feel some hard the suspension...
  • Alum Wheels '17 with BFG Mud 37x12.5R17 (one tire has a lot of wear with some deformation on the surface, I sent it to rear...the other three are in good shape)
  • My OEM Rear Driveshaft was bent, and I had to build it on the machine shop..
  • I replaced the center bearing support with the OEM
  • The lift kit is Superlift, I guess 6" more or less
  • I made aligment and balance before the trip... and mechanic guy said that rear wheels dont got balance... the wearest tire need about 43 and the other one 27.. I dont know exactly what they means.. I think those numbers are about the weight for the balance... He said if the tires need more the 15 on the balance, they dont work..

What do you think guys ? I have to return tomorow to Calexico, CA ... :D

The numbers you cited sound like "Road Force" balancer readings. I believe the numbers represent the weight in lbs of centrifugal force created by the out of round/balance tire/wheel assembly. Your numbers are quite high. That same equipment should also tell where the problem lies. It has the capability of testing wheel runout and roundness and recommend indexing of the tire mounting position in relation to the wheel for the best ride possible on the tire/wheel assembly. High point of tire matched to low point of wheel.

 

Your below 60 problems could indicate that a significant part of your problem is an out-of-round wheel. It could also indicate other suspension problems that I'll admit I'm unqualified to comment.

 

Considering your immediate situation you may can locate a shop with Road Force equipment and grease them a little to index your rear wheels, assuming that you have no steering wheel vibration problems and the problem is entirely in the rear axle. I feel for you man, I can't stand a long ride with vibration like that. Good luck.

Thanks man, unfortunately the mechanic didnt tell me anymore, just that may be I will need to replace the rear tires... with the trip commitments I couldnt found a shop with Road Force equipment... I will have a long trip under the Speed Limit hehehe 50-55MPh :D Normally I do 8 hrs hehehe...

 

I will try with others tires on my town..

 

 

does the truck vibriate or just one specic tire

 

I feel like the complet truck vibrate.. As I said, on very low speeds it feels like a jumper truck.. with Hard Suspension, but above 60Mph it is a machine to make creazy people..

well, The return was better .... because, no longer was a surprise for me as the begin..

 

I noticed one issue... The road has much to do... according to the road surface the Truck vibrate in different way... I was safe on 60mph and below, but in better surface I can accelerate to 90 MPH (on downshift with aceptable vibration, but releasing the downshift, I means entering the overdrive, it feels more vibration..)

 

I have a combination of issues... but I was looking that my lift kit has normal OEM Spindles and Torsions keys... and the torsion bars are cranking to the max.. when I cross a simple bump it feels like a jumper truck without dumping..

 

What do you suggest to make more soft my suspension... I like the look with 37x12.50R17 Muds ... Do I need to buy just the F-150 Torsion keys ?? or I need a big spindles ???
