So Im on the verge of lifting my pickup and was curious as to how much mpg i would lose if i ended up using 35 in tires with 3.73 gears. I have the 5.7. Also, would regearing it be a worthy investment?

It depends on how wide your tires are and how hard to drive it. I would guess that you would lose atleast 3-4 mpg. Also how long are you going to keep your truck? How much does it cost to regear too? It would be in the ballpark of $1000+ depending on shop rates. Soon I will put 35s on my '91 and I think i am going to go with 4.56s... Yukon gears are like 250 per diff (including installation kit).

drive your truck in 3rd gear (if auto), that will give you a 1:1 gear ratio and would simulate re-gearing the truck to about 4.56 gearing. This is about the case on my 5.3. If you do a lot of 80mph freeway, this will bring the RPMs a lot higher. If you do mostly city driving or muddin/crawlin type stuff, that would be best. Stock 3.73 suck on launch, but is best for those 80+mph cruises (for keeping the R's down)

Well i mostly commute 40 miles a day and only do city driving to get groceries and stuff. I figured that 4.56 gears would be the best cause thats what my old yota had with 33s. Im getting almost 19-20 doing 70 on the freeway with my little donuts. Im willing to deal with 15-17 cause thats what my old truck got.

I had 4:56 in my old blazer with 35's and they werent that bad till I lost overdrive. I would go with 4:10 if a 3 speed, and 4:56 with overdrive tranny.

ill probably just bite the bullet and get the lift now and the gears later. Im gonna be car pooling soon anyways so gas isnt an issue. I just dont want to end up getting 9 mpg on the freeway or anything. Anybody use the Fabtech lifts? I was probably gonna get the 7 in lift.

Fabtech is a great company with great products. I would also check out cst and rcd lifts as they are built very strong as well.

Next Up: Level or Lift(not sure yet, opinons?)

My vote is to drop the arse end to level.

I too vote level but I'd lift the front to do it.

Never, ever, lower a 4X4. :(

I just think it would look much more BA dropped slightly. Front leveled trucks are a dime a dozen. Just IMO.

They are a dime a dozen because it makes more sense to raise a 4X4 than to lower it, especially one with custom wheels and larger than stock (and potentially even larger soon) tires.

EDIT: When you dropping yours Beej'?

With that heavy arse trailer I have to pull? NEVA!!

And if he does need 4x4 because of wintertime conditions, but prefers the look of a dropped truck then what? He's supposed to get a 2WD truck just because it "makes more sense to raise a 4X4 than to lower it,"?
