Ok, Wtf Is This Thing?

I have this big dumb bird "living" in my backyard. I've seen it running around the neighborhood for about a month. My damn next door neighbor has been feeding the creature, now yesterday my mother in law was attacked by the thing and it bit her leg, drawing blood (good bird, lol).

Anyways after some searching I found the thing laying on EGGS!!!!! IN MY YARD. My cats want no piece of this action, the bird is too big, fast and very aggressive. The thing stands up to my knee and looks sort of like a vulture. It has a white and red head, mostly grey disgusting body.

The Police won't do anything about it, we don't have animal control anymore, the Enviromental Police and Wildlife won't do anything about it because it has an active nest and they say I need to stay away from it.

This damn thing already bit someone and I'm pretty concerned about my kid getting bit.

Here's a pic of the bird "nesting":

I talked to my neighbor last week about the bird because it was eating my grass seed. I told him I was going to either chop its head off with hedge clippers (it wasn't aggressive until a few days ago) or run a spear through him. He told me he would call the police on me, what a loser

If it was in "MY" yard.. I was worried about it maybe attacking "MY" kid... it would already be gone.

A pump BB/Pellet gun, a big sack to put it in, to haul it to the closest dumpster. Or maybe one across town where it wouldn't be so easy to trace back to "ME".

Turkey?

shoot it and dump the body up here in NH, we won't tell on ya :)

looks like an exotic breed of chicken although it's hard to see from the pic you provided. check in your area an see if anyone raises weird breeds of chickens. this one probably got loose.

shoot it

If I felt threatened or felt that my kids were threatened... I'd be listening to what was said at the end of one of the Toyota Tacoma commercials :

"SHOOT IT!! SHOOT IT!!!!"

It's probably a wild turkey of some sort and is just trying to protect its nest. Of course, the thing to consider about that is that when it has YOUNGSTERS, it'll probably get even more protective and try to expand what it believe to be "its" territory.

Can't really tell from the pic. Get your mother-in-law to mess with it as you stand back and snap some more pictures...

LOL.

I have no guns at this time, when I moved in with my wife (two stepkids) I sold them. I have a yards stake I can easlily make into a spear. Only problem is my a-hole neighbor.

I still can't believe the authorities are more worried about the stupid things eggs than human kids, what the hell is this world coming too.

Do it at night when your nosey nieghbor is sleeping. By morning the nieghborhood will be a safer place and you will have omeletes for everyone!

That's what I was thinking. Does it ever fly around, or is it always on the ground?

Kill it, somehow. Get all primal, then post pictures.

We will bust in into Wikipedia and figure out just what that thing is, before you invite the neighbor over for Bar-B-Q and a beer and feed it to him.

Good luck, Dana

Follow the 3 S rule. Shoot, shovel, and shut up. You can get a nice pellet gun that will take it out quickly and quietly for less than $100. I'd be afraid that if you stake it, it will make all sorts of noise letting your neighbor know instantly what happened.

Another option is to dog-sit for someone with a large dog that wouldn't be afraid to take on the bird.
