Blackbear Tune Installed On Vmax

I finally came up on Justin's list and got my tune. Before talking about the tune, I would like to say that working with Justin was great. I've been hot rodding for many years (1970 442), so I'm used to dealing with people in the automotive industry. Many people that own businesses in this industry have poor to no customer service. This goes for the other tuners as well - I've used two of the ones frequently mentioned on this board, and the service was not good. Justin always returned my calls and answered my emails in a timely manner. I'm old school when it comes to performance, so I asked many questions and sometimes more than once. Justin always answered them without hesitation.

Now, about the tune....it is awesome. I've had two different companies do mail order tunes on my 5.3 liter GMT800, and previously had an Edge Evolution installed on the Vmax. Justin's custom tune (the one where he sends you the cables to collect data) is miles above these. I didn't realize there was so much performance being robbed from the 6.0 by all the "nannies" in the stock calibration until I installed the tuned modules. What others have said on this forum about Blackbear is absolutely the truth. This is the first time that a tuner was able to get it right for me with only one iteration. My other mail order tunes had to be shipped back and forth several times and they never seemed to get it right. This is particularly true for the part throttle up/down shifting. Justin's tune is right on the money. The truck for the first time feels like its delivering the advertized 367 hp (and probably more than that with the changed fuel and timing curves for 93 octane). I haven't driven it long enough to determine how much of a mileage increase there is with the tune, but the instantaneous mileage on the DIC seems higher on average than it was before.

Thanks Justin!

I'm glad to hear that your pleased with your tune. I wonder how far down the list I am :banghead: . I'm sure that Justin stays busy and I'll get my tune soon. It will definitely be worth the wait.

Good to see that your happy with your tune, the power that is released when it is tuned is awesome. Feels like a different truck after the tune.

I paid $420, but I kept my original PCM and TCM. Without retaining them, my cost would have been $200. I actually drove to Virginia to do mine in person.

Thanks

That's better than what I paid. I got brand new modules for $300, so I paid $500 in all, plus a little bit more for shipping. It was absolutely worth it.

As long as you're happy with your tune bro, it's all good. Did u buy them from the dealer?

The person I bought them from bought them from the dealer but didn't use them. He is on this board, but I forgot his user name.

Everybody ends up wanting a custom tune, a hand held is way too expensive and doesn't very much. That's why I always tell everybody to go with a custom tune, because they're going to end up buying one because the hand held can't compare to a custom tune.

I just bought your old Edge and now your making me want a Blackbear tune.

Hmmm, makes me wonder if the guy who bought my old Edge in January still has it or if he too upgraded to a real tune? :):D
