My gas mileage.

I really don't check it just driving around town/base, but I usually last 2 weeks before I fill her up.  Usually around 300-325 miles.  They last two trips I've made to WV, which is a 6 hour drive, I got almost 20 MPG (19.something).  It's mostly interstate and the cruise control is set probably 85-90% of that.  I think thats pretty good.  I got the same MPG in my '91 2wd, regular cab shortbed with a 350 in it.  I know my Z71 extended cab is heavier, so it's good to me.  Fun thing is when I got this truck, everyone kept telling me " your going to hate the gas millage" and "that thing will suck up some gas", but I told them it wasn't any different than my other truck I had for almost 9 years!  That usually knocked them off their soap box. LOL

Forgot to add, it's a 5.3 Vortec.

As far as engine mods, all I've done is added a drop in K&N.  I would like to get a K&N Gen II kit soon.  Gotta save up some dough for that!

Do you really think that the K&N systems show results? A lot of people I've talked to had no complaints about their systems, but had no great mileage gains either. My '95 is bone stock. I haven't added a thing because I haven't seen any significant gains in any products.

I really don't know for sure.  I've talked to a couple friends that have the Gen II kit on Silverado's, and they say they noticed a little difference in low end torque.  I don't know about gas mileage though.  As far as the drop in K&N I have, I havn't noticed any significant improvement in MPG, but it didn't get worse either.

Tom, if you are pushing 20 mpg's then you are getting great milage over the road.  I have never taken my truck for a long run and a tank of fuel usually lasts me three weeks.   The weather has been cold here and the best tank I've gotten in the first 2000 miles is 14.5 mpg's.  I drive 2 miles to work and the truck hardly ever reaches operating temp.   I expect milage to get better as the temp get warmer (spring) and as I get more miles on the truck.

I got that kinda mileage in July and December when we went home.  I try to be as easy on the gas pedal as possible when driving on a long trip and when visiting family in WV.  The gas prices are alot more there than here in SC.

Tom sounds like you get about the same milage as I do. Like yourself I don't run her hard when going home.

I drive a Corvette in the summer. I have had a K&N air filter for the last two years and I believe it does help with mileage and power. I also use Mobil 1 tri-senthetic oil and Mobil 1 filter. i believe that the oil also helps with increasing mileage. My .02
