2003 Rear View Mirror

Im trying to transplant a 2003 mirror into my 1997 GMC, i dont need everything to work.. i just like the looks. and its a little bit bigger.right now i have 3 wires

 

Black, Green, Pink/Red

My Rear view mirror has Compass, Auto Dimming....

 

the new one has like 8 wires....

 

Im looking for the compass which i have now, and auto dimming, and temp

so what wies would i have to hook up to get auto dimming, and the temp to work? it looks like there is a infrared in front to take temp and a little eye for dimming..i dont need the passenger air bag and other stuff i cant hook up in my truck..

 

Thanks.. (Would i be able to get a wiring diagram) or is that agaisnt rules now?

Talk about the hard way to dismount a tire.

If I remember correctly (I had a 2003 Silverado SS) you need to make sure you get everything off the other truck stalk and all because the temp sensor is attached. The other wires are for the passenger air bag warning, and onstar( if it is an OnStar mirror).

You should clip the connector off of the wrecked truck and graft it in. Pink is +12, black(/usually yellow) is ground and cant remember what green is for.

it isnt an onstar mirror, i already clipped the connector with about 8 inches of wire so i can make it work with some sodering..

The temp. sensor is there (On the donor truck that is) I see it in the picture you posted (Look at the pic.,Theres a little spec of Blue,Thats it)

Its on the "V" brace below the auxiliary tranny cooler on the drivers side.

Since your truck already has the compass all you have to do is add the terminals into your existing mirror connector,I did the same thing with my '99,It had a compass but no outside temp.display....I got a mirror from an '01 (that had comp/temp display) Got the temp.sensor,and was able to get the temp sensor wiring harness by itself,so I just removed the terminals from my factory connector and installed them into the new harness.

I never did hook-up the part where the mirror would "un-dim" when put into reverse.

i towed that in...

 

so i would have to run wires from the temp sensor from the grille to the headliner and hook it up to what wires?

Alright i just went out and cut the temp sesnor off the truck

 

It has Black w/ White Stripe and a Green w/ White Stripe... and matchs up to wires on the mirror harness...

 

so i just need to know what the power and ground and compass wires are

Don't know if this will help or not since it's 02 wiring diagrams but the following is for the inside rearview mirror - w/ electrochromic, compass and outside temperature.

Pin 1 - Pnk - Ignition 1 voltage

Pin 2 - Blk - Ground

Pin 3 - Lt Grn - Backup Lamp Supply Voltage

Pin 4 - Gry - Automatic Day/Night Mirror Signal

Pin 5 - Pnk - Automatic Day/Night Mirror Low Reference

Pin 6 - Dk Grn/Wht - Ambient Air Temp Sensor Signal

Pin 7 - Blk/Wht - Low Reference

Like I said, that's coming out of an 02 service manual....may have changed some for the 03. Maybe one of these guys that spent their hard earned money to buy a factory service manual for an 03 will actual open and try to give you some help on this one. I've actually got the onstar version in my truck and it's got a 16 pin connector. I would assume the power and ground might be correct though....pink on pin 1 and black. I think the compass function is built into the mirror itself at least on my truck. The wiring diagrams show nothing externally wired for that function.

btw wont i just be able to remove the torx screw and put the new mirror on?

 

or do i have to rip the mirror off the window?
