6.0l, Mpg Improvements, 99-2005 ?

What year between 1999 and 2005 saw the most significant mpg improvement in the 6.0l ? I'm considering a truck in this year range and wounder which is the best bang for the buck as far as mpg. I realize newer is better but maybe the 05 is not that much better than say a 04 ? Thanks ahead of time for all opinions and comments ! I'm leaning to a extended cab 2x4 short box with 3;73 gears .

The engine is the same basically for all those years-same mpg.

 

You will not be able to get 3.73 gears in every year (from the factory anyway). Some years only 4.10s were offered. Not sure what all they were, but I know 2003 was one.
