Question About Bedrails ..

ok so I just got my raptor 304 stainless steel bedrails and installed them and once i do that i notice this yellow tinit that i have recentley read about .. i had another set of the same rails sent to me but they also had the yellow tint .. i was wondering a few things .. what is the true difference between stainless and chrome .. to my understanding chrome wont have the yello tint .. also i have read many people say that you can get rid of the yellow tint on the stainless bars by using mothers metal polish -----> <------ is this the right product to use?? would i be better off getting chrome bars or polishing my stainless ones?? .. also with this polish, do you just leave the rails on the truck and polish them by hand? any help would be much appreciated

Yep, that stuff will work, but it's alot of work. And you will need to do it often to keep them that way. Waxing them afterward will help, but that needs to be done often too.

Well should I just go with some chrome rails that wouldn't need all this upkeep?

As long as they are chromed SSTL.

Why not just regular chrome? What's the benefit of stainless steel if it comes from the manufacturer already stained yellow?

Ever see chromed mild steel nerf bars after about 2 years? You'll be wishing your only issue was a little yellowing. Though they should hold up better up above the bed than the nerf bars do down near the road where they get more salt and rocks thrown at them. Then again, I guess you don't have that problem as bad down there in the Bayou.

it isn't STAINED yellow. Stainless steel is a different color than chrome. If you polish it often, the difference is minimal but it is always there. My bedrails are stainless in the center with chrome ends and the difference is not really noticeable unless you are really anal about it. If that's the case I suggest chrome. Otherwise, nobody but you will ever notice.

That's true don't that problem in nawlins .. I just think the chrome sstl sound more expensive but I want the chrome look with stake rails

stainless is a different color than chrome because of the copper and nickel content in it. I've had chrome mild steel bumpers that looked good for 10+ years. I would imagine chromed bedrails would stay looking pretty good for a long time as long as you kept them polished.
