Just replying so you know your computer is working!

Not up on the newer 5sp manual tranny's but I have the old NV3500 in my 88 Chevy. They are known for having bad input shaft bearings and the resulting noise. I thought GM had that under control in the mid 90's? Maybe not.

Could be the throw out bearing..but from my experience..it's probably the input shaft bearing. I installed (3) different NV3500 tranny's in this truck...and all of them make the same noise you describe. I just got used to the noise after about 40,000 miles.

There is a specific lube for the NV3500..but I mixed in some heavier stuff anyway...it's still holding up "and noisy".

My next truck will have a NV4500.

Take care

Ed

BTW: The entire tranny must be disassembled to replace the front bearing.
