I have read a post over the last couple weeks about Navigation Disc updates for New and used GM vehicles. Something about the 08's not getting an update any longer and the Certified Used 07s getting an update within 60 days after purchase.

 

Did I read this right? Anyone have any more information about this or the link to the old topic?

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

lol my mom got a DVD in the mail one day out of the blue for her nav in a 07 tahoe it took us like 10 min to figure out how to open the screen to put it in lol..

Yeah - I had to show the salesman how to get the screen to slide down and reveal the Nav DVD slot.. He kept telling me it went in the CD slot. We went back & forth for a while that the ones with Nav did not have a 6 disc changer and I "couldn't just keep putting discs in there." :D

 

The 07's are supposed to get 2 free annual updates, though... So, Robert, you should be able to go to GMNavDisc.com and get them to send you the '08 disc. I got mine a few weeks before my vacation. I didn't really notice many (if any) changes. Actually, it seems like the "Cancel Guidance" option doesn't popup like it should, but I'm not sure if the contents of the disc would effect that. :D

That's the one! Thank you. I checked out the GM Nav Disc Site and it looks like there has been two updates for N. America since my disc came out. An 08 and 09 version. Guess I will have to contact them to see what I can do. Although, it says both of them are unavailable at this timesigh.gif

Yeah - I had to call them to get my situation sorted out. I had moved since I bought the truck. They're supposed to mail you a post card with a # on it that you enter on that website. I wasn't sure the post card would get forwarded. So, I called them and got it sorted out... The post card showed up 2 or 3 days later. But, it was already on order at that point.

My wife has the GM nav in her enclave.

 

The DVD that came with the unit---not sure what version, but it really doesn't matterer, cause.....

 

the street I live on isn't even on the DVD, and my subdivision is pushing to be 25+ years old.

 

Comapred with my TomTom, the GM nav system isn't exactly "superb"... fires me up even more given that it is a $1500+ option ... :D

I called them last week shortly after picking up my new (to me) 2007. At first my VIN number wouldn't register because it said I didn't have a factory NAV. The person on the phone was very professional and efficient. She fixed the problem, said I qualified for the two free updates and ordered a new '08 disc for me. She did say that they were back-ordered for a few weeks, but when it was available it would be shipped.

 

I couldn't be happier. My previous make vehicle would have charged me almost $200 for an update.

Yeah - And always do a reality check, if you're using it to guide you and you're in an unfamiliar area. Mine has tried to steer me through "4-Wheel Drive Only" areas like this.. and its fastest vs. shortest routing calculations aren't always the best, either. At one point in my recent road trip, I decided I wanted to get a rough idea of "just how far from home am I?"

 

Nav > Destination > Home > Fastest : Over 1000 miles and about 15 hours.

 

But, I could tell that it was going to make me back track and go north for a long ways, to get back to Denver, to get on the Interstate, etc, etc..

 

Nav > Destination > Home > Shortest : About 800 miles and about 12 hours.

 

...!? So, the shortest is shorter AND faster than the "fastest" route..?? Hrmmmm...

 

That made be glad I always have an Atlas with me on trips to double-check what the NAV system says... :D Generally speaking, from big point A to big point B, I use the Atlas to get me from "this" town & state to another... Then, if I need to find something local, I use the Nav.

 

Maybe Tom-Tom, Garmin, etc. are better at the "big picture" stuff. If not, I'm not sure how much value they would add either... at least not for plottingthe "big picture" routing. :D

I don't know if this is true in your case or not, but when I first test drove my truck, I took it on an over night test drive and was messing around with the nav. When the salesman was showing me a few things he took the Nav disc out and put it back in and then sent me on my way. I wanted to try the Navigation out so I tried to put in my address and it would not find it. It would do fine on some of the areas around me, main streets and such, but not my neighborhood. My neighborhood is not very old, but it has been there around 4 years. I mentioned it to them when I brought the truck back.

 

I figured the disc was just way out of date. Well the salesman ended up doing some sort of "reset" procedure with the key and the Nav and now my street is available. I have no idea what he did, I don't have a Navigation Manual (Should I be able to get one from the dealer or does anyone know where an online link is?), but it worked.
