4l70e To 4l80e Transmission Swap?

I am curious to know if anyone has attempted to do a trans swap from a 4L60/65/70E to a 4L80E.

I've looked in the service manual for both of these transmissions. I compared a 08 Suburban (4L70E) with a 08 Express (4L80E). In both applications, they both use a T42 and from the wiring I can see, they have the same exact pinouts. I am sure there would be some work here, but that doesn't seem to be the harder part.

So, it seems to be a question of whether or not the transmission can be physically fit in the vehicle, and mated to the L76 (in my case).

Any thoughts?

Not a problem, if your using a transfer case I'm unfamiliar with what will need to be done.

I got an email back from Speed-Eng, they say they aren't doing these conversions anymore...

Here's some of the parts you'll need, you should be able to get these from the dealership.

15000206 - Converter dust cover

12551367 - 6.0 Flexplate

12563532 - Crank Spacer

12553332 - Flexplate bolts (6 required)

15198439 - 4L80/85E Dipstick tube

15183801 - 4L80/85E Dipstick

15013290 - 4L80/85E Shift cable bracket at transmission

11589040 - 4L60/65/70/80/85E Toque converter bolt (6 required)

The stock tranny mount can be re-used, but will require fabrication.

There is a wiring harness you'll need, can be found here http://www.speartech.com/

Nelson racing sells it too.

And here is an excellent swap thread, pictures and all.

If its for your Yukon Xl 2500 8.1 its already got a 4L80E in it.

If only.

Like an idiot, I traded that vehicle in. I should have never done that. And, it had a 4L85E in it.

This is for a 08 Suburban 1500 L76/M70.
