Wasting My Money?

So I get under my truck while I am changing the oil a couple of days ago, and I see some oil at the bottom of the bell housing as I am draining the for the change. So naturally, I dropped the truck off at the dealership today to check it out. My service person calls me and says it's the pan gasket, and that they were taking care of it. I said okay, and that was that. Then about 15 minutes later I realize that they just drained 6 quarts of brand new Mobile 1 truck and suv down the drain. So I called to hopefully have them use full synthetic, and they said GM would only pay for Dino oil. AHHHHHHHHHRRRGGGGGG!!!! Moral of this story guys, is always check for the oil leaks BEFORE you drain the oil!!!! Hope I can help save someone some cash.

Not even a future free oil change? ARGH...BTW, that is a beautiful truck! If you don't mind, can you tell me what you have as far as suspension and wheel/tire package? That is EXACTLY how I want my truck to stand..LOOKS amazing...

Hate to break it to you, but I can guarantee you it is NOT leaking from the pan gasket. It is the Rear Main Seal and/or the Crank Position Sensor O-ring. My dealer tried the pan gasket first too, it took them 3 tries to figure out it was the CPS O-ring.

What's really going to piss you off is when it still leaks in a week and you have to take it back for the rear main seal. This is exactly how mine started.

EDIT: ^^^ See??? Jeff, you just beat me to it.

yes sir; that's a rear main seal, they'll keep your truck atleast more than 2 days, mine about 4 days...

Well, then.......... I guess I won't be draining that Dino oil out until I am sure it's sealed.

My dealer did my rear main seal in one day (in one day, took it home the next). That was try #2, which helped some, but was still leaking slightly from the CPS O-ring.

Try #1: Oil Pan Gasket, and Oil Cooler manifold gasket. FAIL!

Try #2: Rear Main

Try #3: CPS O-ring.

Dry as a bone ever since.

These leaks you guys are talking about, would any of them look like they are comeing from the oil filter? Thats were it looks like mine is comeing from, I have a drop or two comeing out every now and then from an 08 5.3L.
