What's Your Top Gripe On The Gmt 900?

I really like my 08 Silverado overall, but these are my biggest gripes:

1) The lint magnet seats. It might not be a big deal to some folks, but it's really, really, annoying to me. I would have bought leather, if I knew then what I know now. :D

2) Still using that crappy wax coating on the frame. Paint technology has come a long way, and there are much better coatings that could be used. It doesn't last (shrinks, peels, and scrapes off easily from hoists and such, leaving bare metal).

3) Onstar, ABS, AFM, and traction control should all be optional. I don't want any of them.

4) non-greasable ball joints. WTF are they thinking? I can remember when I was a Chevy tech in the 90s, and we were replacing C/K ball joints (at no charge) on all the "maintenance free" ones up to 100,000 miles. That has to cost GM a lot more than putting a damn zerk fitting on from the factory.

5) horrible stock speakers (non-Bose).

1) Totally agree (I still woundn't have got leather though,I can't stand it!)

2) Totally agree

3) Kinda' disagree,I like'em all but.......You can pull the fuse for the On-Star & ABS to disable them,You can get a programmer or custom tune to turn the AFM off,And you can turn the traction control off via the switch.

4) Absolutley agree,I remember the Recall on the ball joints in the early '90s,I started working at a dealership in '90 when that came out.

5) I have the BOSE system and love it.

Yes, but those things added thousands of dollars of cost into the price of the vehicle, for things that I don't want. You should be able to order the truck without them.

I drove all last winter with the ABS inop on my truck, and I loved it. I could definitely stop better without it. It's just a tool for bad drivers.

Onstar is too "big brother" for me, and I have absolutely no use for it.

AFM just adds cost and complexity, and I believe the benefit is too small to justify it.

On ,my 2300HD,the wipers already scratched the windshield in a few places,The undercoating was already mentioned. I have the rubber or plastic tailgate protector, the round one,not the spolier type. Just carrying pvc pipe or my daughter's kayaks have chipped, gouged and scuffed it,I want to replace it with a stainless steel one, like the older trucks have. I have to be carefull on loose gravel or sand, the backend is skittish on takeoff, even under easy throttle. I have 80 lbs. in back tires to provide the necessary gvw rating to haul tralier. The tires came with 80 lbs. from dealer, have 60 lbs. in front tires. I would lower rear psi but would set off the tire sensors. Another thing is I have to wash sand out from behind the tailight housings. I'm not madd and have to take it in stride on a first year design. plowking

1. Can't comment, I have leather.

2. Never had a problem with a frame rusting out and I live in MN and drive my trucks for 7-10 years. Non-Issue IMO.

3. Like them all. Glad I can turn off Stabilitrak/TC though, for when I want to have fun.

4. Agree 100%!!!!

5. I have the Bose system, can't comment.

Top 5 dislikes:

1. No rocker pannels below the doors, to protect the lower edges of the doors from rock damage.

2. Load hights on the beds are way to tall exspecailly on 2wds.

2. TM programing really makes them feel dead headed

3. The Regular cabs still do not have enough room behind the seats.

4. Chevy should have stuck with the SUV styling on the pickups

5. Overall just not real pleased with the whole overstaded fender treatments on the either GMT900 pickup.

Top 5 Likes:

1.I like the new seats

2.I like the new dash layout

3.I like the Ride and handeling

4.I like the how quite the interiors are

5.I really like the Chevy suv styling

Non-opening rear windows on WT model ext cabs.

Yeah and the sad part about that is that there is a window regulator in those doors, they use it at the plant during the assembly process to put the window up,then they use a pin/screw to secure the window in the up position and then install the trim panel over it.

What about the horrible "General" OEM tries on 2WD 1500 models?

No plastic rear wheel well liners?

No fender flares on 4WD models?

Cheesy tailgate and bed side rails?

Or the horrible Goodyear Wrangler ST's....

As much as I love and swear by Goodyear's,They shouldn't be on some of the 4x4's,let alone 2wds,The tread pattern is just "too tight" and close together to clean themselves out in rain or snow.
