Need some help with my 08 GMC sierra .. I had a previous post but didnt get any replies .. hoping this one does because I want to complete my install before the saints game tommorow .. Anyways i am doing a steering wheel swap .. I removed the airbag springs no problem and unplugged the blue harness at the top of the wheel but i am having trouble unplugging the air bag plug from the top of the wheel .. i have it circled in the picture .. is this the right plug to remove or do you remove the two plugs on the air bag .. any help would be appreciated to the utmost .. thanks guyssteering_wheel_1.jpg

I removed the two safety clips from the airbag itself. Just be sure to let the airbag discharge first.

like steve86 said, unplug the wire from the airbag itself, is much more easier, each connector has a plastic clip, remove that and unplug it, and dont forget to unplug the battery negative wire and let it sit for a few minutes.

Stephen, The two on the air bag are the ones you want to remove. Sorry I missed your other post. PM me if you have any more questions. Good Luck, buddy! GO COWBOYS!!!!

Im not familiar with the new silverados but I've dealt with plenty of the old ones and you need to disable whichever zone the air bag is in from the master control module. Most airbags systems will store enough electrical energy in them to deploy the bags so in the event of electrical failure the bags can still deploy. Like I said I do not know these new ones but keep this in mind. Playing with airbags can be like playing with a loaded gun if your not careful.

Naaa, playing with an airbag is like playing with an IED and someone else has the cell. Playing with a pretensioner is like playing with a gun. Either way please make sure you have removed power from the circuit for a long time. Accidents are rare but when they happen with an airbag there is no time to avoid it.

Don't try to remove that single connector. It's supposed to be a part of the clockspring coil, and if you remove it you're looking at possibly purchasing a VERY expensive part and ALOT more work since it's got wires that run all the way down the column attached to the other end.
