I just moved to Florida from PA and am looking to possibly get a truthful answer here since websites are sometimes unreliable as I learned from the FLA DMV website, drove 15 miles to the local DMV to find out that u now need ur Social Security Card to register ur vehicles but on the website stats that is a secondary form of ID but it changed on the 1st of october but doesnt clearly state that is needed to register so yeah but anyway I am looking to go fishing at various places in Florida near me, some places are Hudson Beach, Clearwater Beach, Clearwater Beach Pier, Skyway bridge area etc.... Do you need a fishing license or is the website I saw correct, it states that if you are fishing from land or a obect such as a pier or bridge attached to land you do not need a license to fish ? I just don't want to go out fishing and then get stopped and fined for not having it when it clearly states it on the FWC website that you do not need one but things arent always what you read like I said about the DMV. I appreicate any input the Floridians can give because we have been here a week now and I am itching to go fishing, itching to go Jet Ski'ing to but I gotta wait till it's registered as there is a LIEN on it for now. Thanks Again.

Hey Michael,

I found this info on the web so it may or may not be current. Since I have been out of my home state for almost as long as I lived in it, I am not sure of the current rules/laws regarding fishing. My philosophy is, "When in doubt, buy one." They are not that expensive and are a heck of a lot cheaper than the fine you will pay if they catch you without one. :jester:

Here is what I found...

The following individuals do not need to purchase a license:

Children under 16

Florida residents aged 65 or older

Florida residents who are in the military, stationed outside Florida, and home on leave for 30 days or less

Those fishing on a man-made pond located on private property

Those fishing with cane poles in their county of residence

Florida residents fishing in saltwater from land or a structure attached to land

Florida residents fishing in saltwater from a boat with a vessel fishing license

Good luck. Oh, if you want to fish for monster largemouth bass, try around central Florida (Ocala area). That is where I grew up, along the St. Johns River, and that are has been known to harbor HUGE BLACK BASS! I have a 16lb Bass hanging on the wall to prove it.
