Adding Keyless?

OK I searched and got close but no definite answers. My GF has a '96 Silverado RCSB with electric windows and locks. How do I add keyless entry? She bought it used so can I just buy a key fob and program it or does something else need to be added?

It may be possible to add a GM keyless entry system. I don't know what the system pre-requitites would be though. The easier solution would be an aftermarket keyless entry system. Most car alarm systems have a keyless entry option. Just google keyless entry kits and lots of options come up.

Yeah I know you can add aftermarket but she is really picky about what goes on it. She wants GM only parts, filters , accessories. She even changes her own oil. Yeah she rocks!

Cool GF you have there. My wife couldn't tell engine oil from brake fluid and has no real interest in learning.

 

Another option was to look through GM Parts Direct to see if you can find the necessary pieces.

Check the RPO codes in the glovebox. If I remember right you are looking for code AU0. If you have this code then you can just buy a factory remote from Ebay or somewhere and program it for $20 or so. If not, then you will probably need to go with an aftermarket kit.
