tranny noise

I live and pull in the hills of western pa, when I tow my tractor or camper up long steep hills, the noise I hear seems to come from the dash?? right about in the middle, I have had other trucks do this when getting hot pulling, but it was the coolant really getting hot and surging through the heater  core, it almost sounds like a slight rubbing noise, it goes away after I top the hill and it cools off a little, coolant guage never moves,  tranny has made 200 a couple times, but tranny works well. any ideas? ps, what program changes can be made to the tranny? any ideas for pulling, I do not like the way it goes into od when just tooling around and then lugs you for power, thanks
