jrrod2004 Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Hey fellas I got a couple of questions regarding having an extra set of rims/tires for the summer of 2009. My uses in the summer for my truck are purely street (and maybe strip) as I have a 2WD. I have been eyeing some 20" rims, mainly the MB Gunner 6 from MB Wheels: http://www.discounttire.com/product/wheels/mbmgu6.am.xl.jpg (Finish: Anthracite Machined) and General Grabber UHP http://www.discounttire.com/product/tires/genrh2.xl.jpg (Size: 295/50R20XL 118V BSW) I am wondering which size tire I should choose with those rims: 255/50-20 275/55-20 295/50-20 I raised the front of my truck 1 inch in the front with one of those coil spacers and dropped the rear of the truck with the 2" drop shackles. Should I be concerned with any rubbing on the front end with the 295/50-20s? Also any suggestions for alternate rims and tires are appreciated with the following in mind: *Nothing over 20" *No Chrome or Chrome Plated Rims *No Black Rims *No Offroad Rims *No All Season Tires *No Tire Costing over $250.00 (per tire) I am being picky as a motherf**ker but I figure if I am gonna spend $2000 by next summer, I might as well be picky. Sorry Jeff, we Texans can have 20s on the trucks with no real problem.
DofD Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Here we go again... But really, both the wheel and tire look good to me. With the 295/50-20 you suggest, I would suggest looking at either a 40 or 45 aspect ratio. I like to use this tool when comparing wheel and tire size/aspect ratio combinations. link
jhoff8487 Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I really like the Gunner 6s from MB Motoring. They're truly the wheels I wanted but I got the ones on my truck for a steal at $80/each shipped. As far as tire sizes, I can't help you a ton as I'm just not sure but your choice of wheels is nice. I believe Darkanion has those rims...you may ask him his thoughts on them and longevity. My MB wheels are perfect and shine as well as they did on the first day.
Darkanion Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Jason, you are correct.. I'm running the chrome version of the MB Gunner 6's on my truck. I have had ZERO problems with them. One of the center caps rattles a little bit, at low speeds... So, I don't go slow. Problem solved! Seriously, though, I think my wheels and I think the tires you've come up with would look good with them. I like that tread pattern. I'm running 275/55's on mine. If you want something with a little more "look" to them, you might check to see if General makes those Grabber UHP's in a 285/50. I think if you go with 295's, you'd be more likely to run into issues with rubbing.

Thanks for the info, then I should be fine with the rubber not rubbing?

If you dont mind, do you have a shot of your front tires and how close they come to the inner well? If not I might just go 275/55-20 or 285/50-20 if it does not rub....

Unless you're ordering before early December, you can take a look at the tires I have on the truck, the wheels, the clearances, etc. then. I don't have any pictures of inner clearances. If you're ordering before December, though, I can probably get some for you, maybe this weekend, if the weather is cooperative.

No I plan to order these for my birthday in Jan of 2009 and have the tires early Feb 2009. Quick question, you have not had any issues with pitting have you?

Quick question, you have not had any issues with pitting have you? Not that I've noticed. Now that the weather has cooled off some, I plan to get out and spend some good one on one time with each wheel, getting them all cleaned-up good, and polished up before our 2-3 wks of cold gets here. I'll let you know if I find any problems.
jrrod2004 Posted October 24, 2008 Author Posted October 24, 2008 I think those will look good. Thanks Josh, I hope to have em soon and when I do, I plan to post TONS of pics...
jrrod2004 Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 update: I went to Discount Tire yesterday and and was told that I can consider one of the following: 20x10 6x139.7: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-NEW-20x10...%3A1|240%3A1318 20x8.5 6x139.7 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-NEW-20x8-...%3A1|240%3A1318 Both are the Anthracite Machined finish, both are from discounttiredirect (just on ebay) and both are for a set of 4 rims. The guy at the local discount store said that he would have to sell the exact same rim to me for $979.00. His reasoning behind this is Discount Tire (here locally in austin) said they were trying to get rid of the black MB wheels and had high demand for chrome/Anthracite Machined finish rims. I figure I can go online and save $200.00 bucks since these are what I want and both auctions contain free ground shipping to my home. My question is whether I can go with the 20x10 6x139.7 rims or the 20x8.5 6x139.7? Thanks for the clarifications.
BuckFeverZ Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I'd go with the 20x8.5's. Seems like you want a tire with at least some sidewall to it and with the wider wheels, you'll have to go with a lower profile tire IMO.
2000DV4.8 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Go with the 8.5s, hands down. They have a 25mm positive offset, as opposed to the -25 mm offset on the 10" wide wheels. A 10" wide wheel with that much negative offset will stick out a freaking MILE. EDIT: I think these are the 10" wide ones. Granted, they have 38s on them, but the lip is HUGE and they stick out about 5 miles. Looks tits on that truck, but not on a lowered 2wd. http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128934
