i have a 2006 silverado 1500, had ses and reduced engine power light on.

i took it to the dealership and i was told that they had codes for communication failure with the tac and an update in the tac software will take care of it, when i asked if it was covered under the 8 year 80,000 mile warranty i was told no. not sure if i am looking at the wrong document about labor times and all on the tsb for performing the flash, does anyone have any idea on this?

I'm not sure what document you are looking at.

Well I'm not sure what you are asking but let me ask if this is what you are getting at.

I think you are asking two questions. The first, should it be covered under 8\80 emissions? The answer to that is no, there is very little that is actually covered under 8\80. About the only item you could bank on being covered is the catalytic converter.

The second question seems to be about the labor time. I will answer how I would do this in my shop, it may differ from the one you go to but I imagine you are not going to like my response. GM put this out and they dictate what THEY are going to pay for the repair. In alot of instances we have a little latitude to charge GM extra for other labor hours beyond what they are paying. Any reflash will most likely take more than the .4 that they are paying. I would under no circumstances charge warranty time for a customer pay job. One major reason and difference is that latitude to charge GM more if it takes that. Once you are quoted, if it takes a little more than the quoted time the tech is eating that extra time. If GM gives me .4 to do the job and some circumstance comes up that makes it take an hour and I can document it and they usually pay me. If I tell you .4 and it takes an hour you are going to say too bad.

We have a base charge for normal reprogram of a known issue of .8, if any diagnosis is needed or special program methods will be needed then it is more. The last place I was at charged an hour for base programming. It is really up to the shop to set the customer pay time. If you don't like the time you are free to go to another shop and see if it will be less. I try to quote as close to what it will take for the job and .4 isn't realistic for most reflash events. We find in our particular shop that .8 is usually right on and pretty fair.

Before others step in and ask about programming things that are not stock on the particular vehicle like tire size programming and stuff like that, it is more for that in mosts shops.
