Muffler Shield: Weld Popped

Recommended Posts

Last night I was parking my truck in the driveway and I heard metal vibrating but it mainly did it when I had my foot on the brake (not sure why it made the noise then).

So I had my wife step on the brake while I looked underneath with a flashlight.

It turns out that the front corner weld on the muffler shield that connects the shield to the muffler popped off.

Can I just JB Weld this corner back on?

I'm assuming this won't hurt anything, it just makes a metal vibration noise.

I thought they were usually on with 2 metal straps. I would just take the shield off. It isnt doing anything, I did it to mine

You could get the metal band (or get some cheap metal banding at your local hardware store). Or you can JB weld it back in place - it should hold. If you know someone who's good at welding, you could also have them tack weld it back in place. Or, since it's under the bed and you generally don't carry anything back there that's EXTREMELY heat sensitive (the bed generally gets hotter from sunlight than the exhaust) you could just take it off - my dad and I both did this to our trucks (well, not his new one - but it hasn't broken loose yet).

I had my shop tack weld mine back on when it was in for an oil change. A lot easier ro do it on a lift......
