Non Functioning Drl

Good afternoon folks,

 

I have an odd situation here. 1995 suburban, the DRL are not illuminating, although the panel indicator is lit. In addition, when hi beams are selected, only the innermost headlights illuminate. I have to think the two are related. The DRL fuse (20A) is OK. Is there a relay, or control box that can be the culprit?

 

This is not my car, so I'm not sure how long the situation has been around.

I had the same situation on my 97 Tahoe. The DRL wouldn't come on, but the dash indicator would light up. What the problem turned out to be was the DRL diode under the dash. It needed to be replaced. It's under the centre part of the dash and is aluminum finned thing.

 

Here is some more info on the part I had to replace from GM Parts Direct. DRL Diode

 

On the Tahoe it was normal for only the inner lights to be on when high beams were selected.

Thanks for the quick reply, next question....how much of a pain is it to get at the diode?
