hello i have a 2005 GMC Sierra and i replaced the factory single cd and cassette player with a factory navigation system that came off a totaled 05 gmc denali and the navigation system will turn on and say GMC sound provided by bose but then the screen will flash and then just say theft lock activated and none of the buttons will work besides the eject button.. any help on how to unlock it.?? any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks guys

i am on your boat. i have bought a navigation head unit off ebay and i got it from a tahoe. i was told that it wouldnt work if i got it from a denali or escalade. your best bet is to bring it to a dealer ad they got to reprogram the head unit for your vin.

 

well i am supose to get it in the mail today and we will see what hapens!! i got a buddie that works at a local dealer, he said he would take care of me. another guy i know did the same thing, he wen to the dealer and paid $40 bucks to make it work.

what is the model number of you head unit?? I'm sorry to say that if the head unit came out of a denali, and your puting it in a sierra it will most likley not work even if you have it unlocked. Look in your glove box do you have RPO code Y91 or Y92? If not the radio from the denali won't function. The denali is set up with a lux bose amp from the factory and there are actually different versions of the nav radio. The LUX version (denali escalade) and the non Lux (tahoe, silverado, sierra) EVEN if you have factory bose speakers if it don't have the Y91 or Y92 option you have the wrong amp.

here are the gm part numbers for the lux and non lux radios, let me know what number you have

and to answer your question, if your sierra does have the Y91 code, all you need to do is take it to the dealer, and have a tech with a techII programmer reprogram the radio with your vin number and everything should function. If the dealer tells you they can't do it, go to another dealer, or pm me I'll dig up the instruction sheet and email it to you as to what process they need to follow with the TechII scanner.

 

If you don't have the Y91 code and you have one of the lux radios let me know if you want to sell it, I have a friend looking to do the same conversion I am in the process of with mine right now. Good Luck if you need any other help I have been reasearching this swap extensivly feel free to PM me

You can also go the after market route. I ran into a similair issue when looking for a nav unit but 10 dealers said they could not do it. So i bought a Kenwood 7120 with all the adapters my steering wheel controls work so does my rear seat radio and the factor XM antennna works with the new kenwood XM radio so there is not one mounted on my roof other than factory. Plus i have the Ipod connection bluetooth, built in Garmin nav. it is sweet.

Hi I have a 2003 Chevy Avalanche I bought the lux navigation system, I plugged it in and everything works but the volume. You can't hear anything. Any suggestions. Thanks

I already did this little upgrade in my 06. Really easy to do as long as you get the lux/non lux part correct. Once it is installed, as previously stated, a dealer can take off the theft lock in a couple minutes. They did mine for about 40 bucks.

      I don't wanna do major surgery/upgrades, behind-the-dash work, add amps, change radio etc. on my '26 std cab WT. On the WT, it has the base 7" IOR infotainment setup, and only two speakers (doors). Since I listen to classical, looked around for speakers that do well and dug thru reviews. Two-way speakers were found to be better than 3-way. So I've ordered a pair of  Infinity Reference REF-9632IX 2 way speakers.  [These may  or may not have been discontinued / succeeded by the 3-way ...9633 ones.]    These speakers are lauded for 3 ohm and 94db sensitivity spec so they'll work well for ordinary base car radios without amps and offer better performance (quality,  strength) than  default base paper-cone speakers. They'll be installed in a few days and I'll let y'all know what I think. Bill W San Jose

      Thanks!   Changed out the rear shocks today to Bilstein 5100s.  So far feel much better. The stock Rancho were wore out.  Lots of heavy hauling (2 moves, home renovations, etc).  Next up is new BFG tires Monday.  Cant wait the current tires have little to no wet traction and are super loud (hum)

      How about I just point to the factory pans stand pipe little drain plug and claim its a pan with a real drain plug !. I just couldn't swallow the fact that a Dorman pan which at this point is probably the only pan out there that fits the gas version truck cost that much up here in Canada so I decided initially anyway to skip it and see what I thought of pulling the pan method and down the road if I felt inclined enough then I would either install a drain plug kit in the factory pan if there is enough room for it, or have a bung welded onto it, or put an aftermarket pan on. The thing is if the pan is not pulled then the magnets in the pan can't be inspected and cleaned or if wanting to change out the filter. However of course it certainly would make the job easier to be able to drop the oil first before having to handle the pan if dropping the pan that go around was the goal.    I knew a guy locally that was doing custom field spraying years ago with a pickup pulling a ground driven sprayer, I believe it was a GM pickup with an automatic trans. He had a drain plug in his pan and would drop the oil out of it once a week and top it back up through the dipstick tube to keep refreshing a portion of the oil often and that made the transmission last far longer than had he done nothing. Soft fields pulling 500 gallons of water at the start of each mixed up sprayer tank batch and in low range sucking along. I imagine he got some tips from other custom sprayer outfits doing the same thing at the time and learning from their blown up tranny mistakes. Transmissions then had no lock up converter so would cook the crap out of the fluid slipping that much and it would not have been synthetic fluid either.
