Hard Wire Idea?

Hey I know the topic of hard wired radar detectors has been brought up just a FEW times, but I had a revelation today...

 

So I was thinking it would be cool to wire the two overhead lights in the overhead console on the 08' Sierra's to both turn on and off with one of the switches, that would leave one button open and not conncected to anything

 

So after that one button is now free, I thought it would be cool to wire the radar to that button, so I can turn it on with a flick of a switch (or rather a push).

 

Has anyone done this? Or anyone have an idea how to go about doing this? Electrical really isn't my thing so any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I would say that hard wired radar detectors should come with an off button already. I know mine does, an Escort 9500ci.

 

I haven't taken the overhead lights apart, so I don't know if the switch in there is a hard or soft switch. Where a soft switch just tells the BCM to turn the light on of off.
