08 1500 4wd Nht Vs Z71 Suspension Pkg Differences?

I'm pretty new to this site. My old truck, which I still have, is a 1999 1/2 2500 (new style) 4wd 6.0 extcab shortbed and I just purchased a 2008 1500 crew 4wd 6.0 with the NHT suspension package.

I'm wondering what differences the Z71 package has than my truck.

My truck has the NZZ skid plate pkg and QJP P265/70R17 OOR tires which I know are not the same as the Z71 18" wheel/tire combo. I measured the shocks and swaybars tonight. The shocks are 1.97" O.D. at the bottoms, both front and back, and the swaybar is 36 mm dia. The rear suspension travel bumper is a redish brown (polyurethane?) with several "accordian" style layers, but I don't know if they are the same as the Z71. The front bumpers I didn't get a look at tonight.

Also wondering if the "All Terrain" package trucks are higher in the front than other stock trucks? When I saw one the yesterday at a stoplight, it appeared almost level .

Thanks

Chuck

what is the NHT suspension package?

and the sierra "all terrain" trucks sit the same height as all other 4x4 sierra's

NHT is not a suspension pkg. It is the "Max Trailering pkg", which includes the L76 6.0 engine, 4.10 gears and the G80. It comes with 17" wheels and the Z85 suspension.

The Z71 suspension has 46mm shocks and a 34mm front stabilizer bar.

The NHT "Max Trailering Pkg." has the "Z85" suspension package and also uses 46mm shocks, but uses a 36mm front stabilizer bar (As you already found out) in place of the 34mm bar.

The "NHT" package includes so much more as Jeff pointed out, including the 4L70-E "Super-Duty" transmission (Which comes with any 1/2-ton 6-liter equipped truck) and 4-wheel disc brakes with Stabilitrak.

Also the 265/70R17 tires that come with the "NHT" pkg. are also standard on Z71 trucks,The 265/65R18's are optional with the Z71 package.

The rear jounce bumpers are the same on all trucks no matter what suspension it has.

there are 2 separate V-Max packages. 1 basically replaced the SS, trucks and the other is the vortec max "trailering package" which is apparently the NHT package

I'm a little confused by this Jimmy,Theres only one "VMAX" package, which is the "NHT" Max Trailering Package.

However.....You DO NOT have to get the "NHT" pkg. to get the 6-liter engine,You can do what me and Jeff did and order the "L76" 6-liter "VMAX" engine as a seperate option and still get the 4L70-E "Super-Duty" transmission,9.5" rear-end,and the engine and tranny oil coolers as part of this engine option. This also allows you to order your choice of suspension packages (Z71,Z85,Z60) and wheels (17",18",20") instead of being forced to get the Z85 suspension with the 17" wheels.

+1

Also, you get the 3.73 gears with the non-NHT Vmax and 4.10's with the NHT pkg.

But I do see Jimmy's point since the Vmax is kind of a "package" since it includes the entire drivetrain (as you listed) and 4 wheel discs (on Stabilitrak equipped trucks). It's just that the NHT package includes the L76 "package" along with the 4.10's and restrictions on suspension and wheels, in order to get the higher tow ratings.

Hey Rich, if you were to do it again, would get the NHT pkg? I would. I thought I wanted the 3.73's and the 20" wheels and I already dumped the wheels and I now wish I had the 4.10's.

the non NHT-non Z71 trucks with the 3.73's and optioned with the 20's are the "replacements" for the SS packaged trucks, and the NHT trucks (which i have) are more of the work horse v-max trucks.

now i'm NOT saying that the non NHT trucks can't be workhorses, but with a 6.0, heavier tranny, 3.73's and optioned with 20s are almost direct "replacement" for the SS's

Not really, the SS's were all-wheel drive, weren't they?

I'd say the Sierra Denali is more of an SS replacement than the non-NHT Vmax.

the first SS's were AWD, but starting in 05 or 06 they made them in AWD and 2wd. so if you get a non nht v-max in 2wd you basically have a nnbs silverado ss

You know....I don't know Jeff,I think I "probably" would get the "NHT" pkg. if I could do it again,But I really wanted the Z71 pkg. with the 18" wheels (Which I also replaced with other 18" wheels, even though "you" don't believe me! ) when I ordered mine.

Well, you could have just got the NHT with 17" wheels and replaced them with 18" wheels (like you supposedly did anyway :D ) and bought the skid plates ala carte. That is what I did. I think they were like $95 iirc. So I basically have a Z71 with the Z60 suspension. I also had to buy the G80 ala carte.
