Time to optimize my connection, I'm leaving work now.  Oh wait a second have to go to a job site.  Dang, well I'll fill you guys in tonight on any speed gains.

Anyone know if I network the connection to my two sitsters computers can I limit there speed?

Not too sure on that one Jon, depends on the OS system you both are running. It could be done if she has a network card too, just don't know the details.

I do know that you need a router (4 port). The line into the DSL modem stays, line out from DSL moden to router, then you use the router out ports to both computers. If there is any software that needs to run the DSL, she will need it installed too.

Let me know if you need help, I can try to walk you through it.

I've got a computer whiz buddy who's going to help me out w/ it this weekend.  I just want to limit my sisters connection because they just go online to chat all the time.  No point in giving them super speed, they may slow me down then by downloading all the time.  Looks like another hundred bucks getting used when I get all the stuff to set up the network.

it wouldnt be the downloading that would slow you down.. it would be the uploading. second someone starts using the upstream bandwidth your downstream says "goodbye"

setup a proxy server or something and play god with everyone on the nextwork.

I hate dial up

I'm with you...  Even though my computer says I'm connected at 45.2 the test shows I'm only running at 40 Kbps.
