Full Length Bolt On Exhaust Tip

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been browsing for a while, but I finally went ahead and registered since I picked up my new '09 black Silverado LTZ last week. First thing I really want to do is to cover up that ugly exhaust pipe. Not looking for a whole exhaust system, just a tip please.

I've done a search and looked at the posts from last year and before. I saw the factory tips that GM sells, but they don't seem to be a full length tip. I want something that will cover up the whole pipe so it looks good from the back too.

Only thing I've been able to find that is full length and bolt on is this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-S...A1%7C240%3A1318

Any opinions before I buy it?

Thanks in advance!

bad thing about the bolt one ones is i have seen them wiggle off before you could always cut it down to where ya need it and tack weld it on at the bend.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply!

I really dont want to get it welded though. And isn't the factory optional tip from GM a bolt on as well?

 not sure about the gm one i have always welded mine on that way they stay on and on one can walk up and steel it.

I like the tip it looks really nice but the thing i don't like is the fact that if you were in a car behind it you could see where it attaches too. For some reason that bothers me. Would rather have it be part of the tube that is there and just flare out from the old tube. Seems pretty expensive.

Just my 2cents.

Screw that cheap, overpriced crap, get a nice tip from a name-brand aftermarket exhaust company. I know MagnaFlow sells many different sizes, and they're made of T-304 stainless steel, which is the steel most resistant to rust that's used in the automotive industry. You can get single-walled, single-walled w/ rolled tip, and double-walled. I personally think that tip you're looking at sticks out too far, I'd get something a bit shorter with at least a rolled tip that looks cleaner and more OEM. That also appears to just be a chromed steel tip, not stainless steel, so if you live in a rust-prone environment, it'd probably develop a little rust over time. Oh, did I mention that the MagnaFlow tips MSRP for LESS than that no-name cheapo tip you're looking at on eBay?

I'd buy either this 3" tip or this 3.5" tip, both for 3" piping. I think the stock piping is 2.75", but you should be able to get them on there. If you're nervous, go with the tips for the 2.5" piping. I'd ask MagnaFlow which would be best, however. Regardless, I'd have them welded on as the look a lot nicer that way. They're 12" long, so they won't stick out like that eBay tip, but they should still cover most if not all of the piping up to the bend. If you'd rather not have a rolled tip, here are the some tips unrolled here and here. The rolled tips are only $5 more and look a hell of a lot better, though. Both rolled and unrolled are 15 degree angle cuts.

Why would you not want to weld it?
