Routing Wires Through 3rd Brake Light

Recommended Posts

Adding a 3rd brake light bar to a 03 2500HD crew cab. The light bar handles getting the wires inside the cab via the 3rd brake light.

My question:

How do I get the wires from the 3rd brake light to the dash? Do I take out all the inside plastic? Or do I mess with the headliner?

I'm assuming that I play with the plastic but would like some tips or tricks if any exist.

any info much appreciated

Not really understanding what your adding.

If you are routing wires from the 3rd brake light to the dash, I'd go tru the headliner down the front (driver or passenger)pillar.

I'm not sure what you are attempting to do either.

If you are adding a rooftop beacon or such. The truck has been pre wired and the cables are coiled up above your headliner. Remove the trim holding up the headliner on the drivers side and pull the headliner down slightly. You will see the wires coiled there. I think they are brown and white. Remove the third light assembly and fish the wires back. I drilled a small holeon the underside of the third light and inserted a pigtailed weatherproof modular connector (Battery Tender accessory I cut the end off). I soldered and shrink tubed the splice and pushed it in behind the third light then reinstalled the third light. Sealed penetration with silicon. I installed the mate to the weatherproof connector on my light bar. Plugged it in and hit the aux. light button on the dash. No additional fuses or relays needed.

I hope this is what you were looking for. Otherwise I just wasted a bunch of words.

Good Luck

I understand what you want, and I'd recommend removing the headliner then running it down the pillar by the windshield. Cleaner installation this way IMO.

Please note that unless you have the VYU plow prep option and the

aux light switch on the dash (gmt-800) you will NOT have the extra

wires hidden in the left side of the headliner.

Apsolutely right. If you dont have that option then you will have quite a bit more work ahead of you.
