Just searching around to see if I want to have someone build it from scratch or just buy a used one and get some machine work done.

Thanks!

If you are talking about a small block 383, I've never seen a used one. They were never an option on any GM vehicle. (not counting the old big block 383 of the sixties/seventies)

If you are building this for a daily driver, then I vote neither. Buy a crate motor with a warranty would be my vote.

Have you decided if you are going to try to use TBI or carb? If you build one, there are some really nice vortec headed 383 combos out there that make very good street motors with a lot of torque.

Too bad you were not looking about a year ago. I sold a good running, mild (~425hp) 383.

Not really sure, for a daily driver I wouldn't want to pull out my carb to tune it everytime the weather changes. It is very random here in Southern Cali, rain one day, extremely hot and dry the next day.

Most likely going with the TBI, where could I find the vortec headed 383 combos you mentioned?

I haven't searched a ton, but I found this little 383. It's a little pricey, but what I like about it is set up to run with computer controlled vehicles and it would be very plug and play for you. It might save some money else where in the long run. You would still need to get a new chip burned and i would look for some bigger injectors for your TBI.

The other thing you may do, if you know a engine builder that you would use. Take them a print out of this motor and tell them thats what you want. Have them shoot you a price.

There are stouter combos out there, but again you are talking about a daily driver here. 400lb/ft of torque would be fun in that truck.

So I would use my old TBI unit with this?

You may be able to. It will fit, but I would contact them and see what they recommend. Find out what it was dynoed with.

I also like the fact it come with a 24 month/ unlimited mileage warranty.

Not bad for 4 grand.

You could use your old TBI, but how dissapointed would your new motor be? The original TBI flows about 390cfm's. If you step up to a nice 383, you will need one with throttle bores of about 46mm, that would flow closer to 600cfm. Of course your bigger bore TBI will require better flowing injectors and a bigger psi fuel pressure regulator. You may even have to step up the fuel pump to feed the other goodies down the line. By the way, how much money do you want us to spend for you?

Haha I'm just doing some searching around.

I may just buy a SSS to turn into my daily driver and then start the C1500 into my project truck. Because of now it may be too much work and time for it to be my only transportation. I work on a on call basis so I really can't have my truck being unusable (performance upgrades ^_^) right now.

But I may just borrow another car and start the project now, lol.

Take it from me, you need to diversify...

I know.

Hopefully I can snag a Silverado SS off of the Silveradoss.com site to use as my daily driver. Then the fun begins.
