Aftermarket Cat Back Questions

Recommended Posts

Posted

I know there are many threads about this topic, and as many arguments about brands as there are between chevy fans and ford :uhoh: fans.

However:

I am looking to get a cat back dual exhaust system with a REAR exit (I like at look). I want a good sound primarily, and performance increases a close second. My question is what brands do not require spare tire relocation/removal as I have read MAY happen with some brands. I know that I will need to have a hanger welded on the drivers side in the same place as the stock passenger side hanger and that is obviously okay.

Some brand input would be nice as well...magnaflow, corsa, thrush...etc. Also let me know what price range I should be looking at with install...

Thanks guys and gals

I love my CORSA,I've had CORSA systems on my last three trucks,They DO NOT require you to remove the spare tire.

They are not cheap systems,Your probably looking around a grand for a dual rear exit "Sport" system,However a lot of the guys on here have found some pretty good deals on them,I paid $650 for my side exit "Sport" system.

I the only kit I've seen that requires removal of the spare is Gibson. I don't believe the Magnaflow or Flowmaster kits require you to remove it.

The GMPP (Borla) system also does.

While I am all for exhaust set-ups, I dont care for kits. I have always prefered the ability to go to an exhaust shop and get what I want and cheaper. Probably doesn't hurt that my dad's friend owns 4 or 5 muffler shops in Ft. Worth either.

On both trucks I've owned, I've always had an exhaust shop custom bend my exhaust. IMO you get a better fit and finish than with a kit.

Not to mention that u can have the tips put about an extra inch further out than usual and have less cab noise

Did not realize that it would be cheaper...thank you. Can he travel to NJ with some pipes and his mandrel bender??? :uhoh:

The tips make that much difference even in a pickup when they might only be a touch under the bed???

So far Im thinking a custom job with corsa muffler(s)...but one muffler to two pipes? Or a split after the cat with two mufflers? Imput?

Thanks again and keep the brands/reviews coming

It actually makes a quite a bit of difference. One of my old friends had a decibel meter and we had the pipes welded and then drove around, went back to the shop had them extended about 1 inch and it was about 20 decibels quieter in the truck overall. The more I got on it the more the difference was noticeable.

If you don't mind sharing: where did you find it that cheap? I've been lookin a week or so and cheapest I've been able to find is around $850. I'd prefer to go with corsa over GMPP because I've seen several complaints of Drone with the GMPP. But the price tag on the corsa at 850 is a bit rich at this time.

The only down side to using an exhaust shop is that most don't have mandrel benders...from what I understand, they're quite expensive. If you aren't concerned with mandrel bends, then custom is surely a great way to go. A guy I work with had the exhaust on his GMT900 Silvy custom bent...it looks and sounds great.

Mandrel bends are important, but most shops around here have the mandrel benders, they may be older but they still do the job. I wouldnt use a shop that doesnt use mandrel benders.

:D If you have the money....go Corsa Sport....you wont be disappointed.

Noticed from you sig that you switched from corsa touring to sport. just wondering why and what main differences you saw between the two of them. I'm stuck on the fence between the 2 corsa systems or GMPP Touring.
