Question On Pricing To Paint Front Bumper

So i plan in a couple of weeks of getting the street scene gen 1 bumper cover. Im going to paint the fog light area black to go with the theme im going for. I plan on hitting a few more shops, but the first one i went to said $400 to paint it. I plan on putting it myself once painted. Does that sound about right, or a bit to high?

How much prep is needed for the bumper cover?

To me, $400 sounds a bit on the high side...unless there's a ton of prep work involved. :D

None that i know of, should be minimal at best. I thought 400 sounded a bit steep too. Just ordered the bumper today.

I'd have to agree that $400 sounds high for painting a bumper. My guess a better price would be the 250-300 range.

So does this mean the grille's being painted too?

Nope, i like the orange inserts, so the grille will stay black, at least for now. Got some more quotes of 300 to 350.

I would make sure the paint shop you take it to uses good quality paint. i perfer dupont.

Good idea, thank you, Ill make sure to ask that. Any other good brand besides dupont, or ones to stay away from?

Any decent shop would probably want to see the cover before committing to a price. If it's fiberglass there may be a boatload of prep work needed and that increases the price. They wouldnt know that without seeing the quality of the glass. If it's actually molded urethane you should be able to have it shot for 300 easily.

Sikkens is the best paint I have ever used on anything. Fairly pricey but I've found NONE better. Sikkens has been producing finishes in Europe for over 200 years.

PPG, DuPont, and others offer reasonable quality for the money. Other quality name brands are out there too. Many second tier bargain brands exist but most are not all that good.
