Pressley fired from Jasper Motorsports, Blaney to take over

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Jasper Motorsports fired driver Robert Pressley on Tuesday and hired Dave Blaney for 2002.

 

The team also gave crew chief Ryan Pemberton a three-year contract extension.

 

Blaney, who currently drives for Bill Davis Racing, is in his second full season in the Winston Cup Series. Davis has yet to secure a sponsor for the car for next year, so Blaney had been pursuing his options.

 

He has five top-10 finishes this season and is 23rd in the points standings.

 

``I'm looking forward to a new challenge,'' Blaney said. ``I think there is a lot of potential at Jasper Motorsports. The opportunity to run Penske Jasper Engine and a Ford Taurus makes me confident about the future.''

 

Pressley, in his second season with Jasper, has three top-10 finishes and is 27th in the points.
