gman4dx266 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 2002 1500 Crew HD, Premium sound but NOT the bose. (no factory amp or sub) I want to put a basic sub and amp in the truck, nothing major just something with a bit of kick and will make letters unreadable in the mirrors. I am keeping the Stock headunit. I have aftermarket pioneer front and rear speakers. My snag is where can I pick up a power for the amp remote wire that is included in the retained accessory mode for 15 minutes after ign is shut off? I know I could pick up and tap into the windshield wipers to have it on a basic ignition switched circuit but I would like it to act like a stock radio. I have read there should be an Orange wire on the headunit harness, but I cant get any verification if this is a RAP wire or just a regular switched wire. Thanks to any of you guys who can help!!
ScottyBoy Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 On an 02, its a dark green wire in the radio harness. But there are a few green ones, you'll have to test it. It SHOULD be right next to an orange, black and brown. The 02's and earlier weren't controlled by the databus, there is actually a RAP wire going into the radio. (The dark green wire) I tapped into this wire to power a dvd player I added in my 01 Suburban. I actually have my DVD player and a monitor both powered off this wire with no problems. Its been like that for over 3 years now , so I'm confident you'll have no problem turning an amp on with this wire.

I have done a ton of reading on here and have found numerous stuff for 03+ and how its all databus and junk like that, but nothing really for the 02-prior guys. Just to make sure, that green rap wire that ill find, should be 12 volts right? (asking because most amp remotes require 12v for turnon). Thanks!
ScottyBoy Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Yes, its 12volts. Its a 12volt wire powered only when the key is on and will will stay powered for up to 20 mins after you shut off the ign and take out the key. It will turn off when you either open ANY door or 20 mins has passed, whichever comes first. I said above that I even powered a dvd player and an over head monitor off of that green wire. No blown fuses or anything, and its been like that for over 3 years.
