Want To Add Matching Door Handles, Paint Or Buy Them?

I am looking to match my door handles, mirror covers, and tailgate handle to my truck paint which is the silver birch. I have looked on ebay and done a ton of searches but every door handle that I found that matched my paint they were a rip off in my opinion. Asking way to much... Anyways, I think I have read about some of you guys actually getting paint matched and going that route. I am looking for suggestions; should I buy the overpriced items off of ebay or get some painted. For you guys that have painted them, what are ya'll paying and are ya'll painting the chrome or the rough black ones that come stock??? Not a paint and body guru so if I am wrong correct me, I have heard that you can pretty much paint any surface as long as it is prepped the proper way?? Any and all advice is appreciated..

Thanks,

Derek

You can paint over chrome no problem, just sand it down and prime and then paint. THats what i did for my side view mirror covers. I plan on buying a set of chrome handle covers over ebay soon and do the same.

FWIW, here are some of the prices I paid for my color-matched items: I bought my color-matched handles from ebay as a set of 4 (only used 2) for $59. I bought the GM "paint-to-match" mirror covers from MS3DALE for $47 and had them painted. I bought a GM locking tailgate handle kit from MS3DALE for $42 and had it painted. I paid $175 to my bodyman for painting the mirror covers and smoothing/painting the tailgate handle/bezel and a Denali lower bumper valance.

I added OEM takeoff Fire Red door handles to mine off Ebay for something like $50-70. Can't remember. Painting the stockers is possible but there are alot of hard angles to paint. Would be major time consuming to make it perfect. I bought OEM chrome mirror caps for $30. I did sand smooth my stock black tailgate handle and primer and paint it to match. Very time consuming but turned out great. Can't tell a difference from OEM.
