86' Chevy

Hey guys, new here, first post. Anyways, bought myself a truck tonight. Just got back to the States after being in Japan for two years, and figured I might as well get myself another Chevy! Just wanted to know what y'all thought, good deal, get ripped off, any suggestions on what I can do to make her that much better? Going to give it a basic tune-up here shortly. 454 under the hood. Average wear-and-tear on the interior, but nothing major. Also need to replace the left/right fuel tank switch so I can take advantage of them both.

Here she is. 1986 Chevy C20. Paid $2000. 55,500 miles all stock. Haven't looked under the frame yet but I'm fairly sure she has some aftermarket pipes on.

Hi and welcome to the site.Are those miles for real or has the odo turned over once? If they original and everything works as it's supposed to I'd say it was worth it.How does it drive? stop? I love the body lines of the older trucks...I have a '77 GMC and has the 454/TH400 Camper Special and was a workhorse(I say was 'cause my son totaled it recently ).BTW the background in your pic looks like the deserts of SoCal,am I close?

Looks pretty nice. If those miles are true and it has lived in a dry climate, you should be set for lots of life.

Welcome! The interior shot of your truck is very familiar to me. I've got a '79 Scottsdale and an '80 Silverado sitting in the driveway. Both still running strong

Hi and welcome to the site.Are those miles for real or has the odo turned over once? If they original and everything works as it's supposed to I'd say it was worth it.How does it drive? stop? Those are the actual miles. She drives pretty well, in need of a basic tune up, plugs, oil change, the usual, but that's a quick fix. Needs a small alignment too, she drives ever so slightly to the right. From what I know, the truck was just a basic work truck, and hardly used as they had 5 other vehicles. I'm down in 29 Palms, where are you located?

Does anyone know where to find a good amount of aftermarket parts? I've been looking for a Tonneau Cover, so far TruXedo is the only one I can find for an 86' with long bed. Are there any others out there? Also, grille guards and maybe even a lift kit for the future (still undecided about that one)? I've been on LMC, that's but really the only aftermarket I can find on there are step bars.

Does anyone know where to find the Chevy Silverado/C20 emblems that go on the front left/right fenders? As you can see in the picture, mine would be missing. I'd really like to find a set and throw them on.

A tree actually,and what really pissed me off was I had just put $2,000.00 into it.You can see the new tires & wheels but I also put in new seat upholstery and formed carpet from LMC.I was about to do headers & exhaust when my son hit the tree....too bad he only hurt his knee on the dash.He was used to driving a '85 C10 with a 305 in it.I now think that 454 was to much power and he grew a larger set of cajones.Funny thing,he was a Marine and got out a few years ago.

Mr. Jarhead,take of your truck,don't do what my son did,it'll take good care of you.I loved that thing & miss it

A place north of L.A. called Santa Clarita.My son was stationed there for a while in '00 or '01,we've driven there to see him a couple of times,takes about 2hrs.We would go thru Victorville and Lucerne Valley.

Gramps - What unit was your son with? I love it out here, I just spent a year and a half out on Okinawa, so this is definitely a change for me. Got back and all I wanted was another pickup, and came across this one.

Thanks guys. I used to own a 91' Cheyenne. I loved that truck. Had the nickname "Banana Beast" due to the yellow color. Was an old Penske moving truck I bought for $1000. Sold it when I joined the Marine Corps, so this is the first vehicle I have owned in the past 3 years. Of course I had to buy a motorcycle along with it...
