Gm Assist Step Mounting

Recommended Posts

Posted

I finally got around to installing my 3" GM assist step bars. Very nice w/ great mounting. I like them *much* better than the Westin bars I had on my 99.

I noticed on the passenger side that the 2nd bracket from the front is touching a "cross running" piece of metal and that it caused the bracket to not line up as cleanly with the mount points. It went, but the bolt was a little tight. After I finished, I remembered something somewhere on here about a GM bulletin to modify the bracket to clear "something". In retrospect, I'm sure the "something" was that little piece of reinforcing steel.

So the question is whether anyone has had an issue with these two parts coming into contact. I pushed, pulled and bounced on the steps after the install and there is zero noise. Stout as a rock. Do I need to pull it, grind back the bracket a bit, repaint and reinstall as (I'm now recollecting) the "GM bulletin" stated? I don't mind, but thought someone here could clue me in as to whether it's just a "sometimes" issue or something that is always recommended.
