Hello everyone. Just bought a 87 sierra classic this week for 700.00. Had to replace fuel pump, cooling sensor and distributor cap. Now she running good. After the 1st 2 stops the ABS wants to lock up. What do I need to check? I thought of just removing the fuse for it. Oh here is a picture

Try cleaning out the sensors and ring.

BTW...I didnt know they started ABS on the trucks that far back. I assumed it was in the early 90's.

Remove all speed sensors (if it has front abs, they'll be on the hubs) the rear sensor will be in the trans. Wipe em off with a rag and clean the mating surfaces of the sensor and the trans. Had the same problem with my 98 and that fixed it right up. Hope that helps and welcome aboard!

If I'm not mistaken 1987 did not have ABS........

I believe that ABS was added in 1988 and it is rear wheel only.

I wasn't sure on the date, but I do know it was rear wheels only.

Hi there and welcome to GM Trucks! :wtf:

Are you sure it's anti-lock? As I didn't think rear wheel anti-lock didn't start till the GMT400 arrived.

Is there a brake light indicating a problem? Parking brake pedal all the way up? Have you replaced the shoes and adjusted them? You could also disconnect the battery for 5m in to reset the computer.(if it controled the brakes)

Well guys you were right. Rear Wheel only. Kinda clean it up a bit and pumped the brakes a while and no more locking up. Thanks for everyones help. Im learning as I go. Next step is a muffler and exhaust this weekend.
