Auto Transmission Question 1993 C1500

I have a 1993 Chevy C1500 with the 4.3 liter engine and automatic transmission and have a couple of questions:

 

1)Which transmission is installed in this pickup?

 

2) The transmission will not go in reverse. Forward gears are OK. Is there an easy fix for this or am I looking at an overhaul?

1) dont know for sure, prolly 4l60

 

2) prolly valve body (experience)

 

I am sure others will respond with better ideas

When was the last time the transmission was serviced? It could be a blocked port in the valve body or worse a bad syncro.

I'm not sure when it was serviced. I got the truck from some friends, and I suspect it hasn't been serviced for a while.

A guy at work had the same thing happen, where reverse went out. He drives the truck kinda hard. It's a 95 Silverado. Yours is likely the 4L60. What this guy did for a while, was pull into his spot so he could drive out, but letting it roll backwards. He eventually got it rebuilt after it grenaded a few weeks later.
