Another Clutch Question

My son has a 95 Silverado that has a 5 speed in it, the issue is that when it gets up to operating temp the transmission does not want to go into either 1st or rev, you have to turn the truck off and put it in gear and then restart it.

 

I have some experience with manual transmission/clutch issues but not a lot.

 

My first thought was that it needs a new Slave cylinder, however when reading the troubleshooting section in the Chiltons manual, they say if it shifts good when the engine is not running but won't shift when running that it is a clutch spin down issue and that the clutch and pressure plate is the culprit.

 

Has anyone else had this type of problem? I don't mind changing the clutch componets, I would just hate to remove the tranny and transfer case and it turn out that the slave cylinder was at fault after all.

 

Also, in the Chiltons book they say that the Master/Slave is one complete already filled unit but when I asked the guy at NAPA he said that his book shows a replacement Slave without the master, so is Chiltons wrong or NAPA?

An old big rig trick is to double clutch, that got it to work for me years ago.

I guess we don't have any clutch people out there.
