Toyo Open Country M/ts Or A/t

I'll be going to a 285/70/17 tire either way but i cant decide between the two.

so anyone with experience with either one of these tires, let me know what you thought of them, like there pro's and cons

Are the M/T horrible on paved road and do they dramatically give worse gas millage, i do like the look of the M/T's better however i still like the look of the All terrains.

MTs are generally harsher, less sticky in rain, and much noisier on pavement than ATs. Unless you intend on doing a lot of mud running, I'd go for the AT.

Mud tires are badass looking though.

look at the nittos. same company, may be slightly cheaper.

i have the nitto terra grappler's (a/t). i like them, better than the pro comp's i had. the only thing is that theyre heavy- mine are load range E, not sure what the toyo's are or that size for that matter. but theyre good alround, ive had no problems in sand mud or snow. the mud tires might wear out faster too.

I just got the M/T's and I have to say, at least when new they are quiet as hell. Way quieter and smoother than my previous Cooper STT's. And they do fine in the rain, the treads have siping which helps in wet road conditions. Some M/T's don't and aren't as effective in the rain.

I have the A/T's...they are great tires...last week while I was pulling the boat out of the water, most trucks where having trouble gribbing the pavement...my truck pulled the boat out with no problems...they are great in the rain, and in the dirt...

Only drawback...they don't look aggresive enough in my opinion...

M/T's. The Toyo's have the best rating for M/T's out there for wear, noise, traction, and load. The trade offs for all of this is weight and price.

71 pounds per tire for the M/T

44 pounds per tire for the A/T

I know your looking at the toyos, but have you considered the pro comp extreme a/ts? The reason I would suggest them is because you apparantely want something thats aggressive looking like a mud tire, with a lot of tread. The pro-comp extreme is the most aggressive a/t tires that I have came across. They are definately more aggressive than the toyo ATs or the Nitto ATs.

Not only that they come with a 40,000 mile warranty. Regardless of whether you use the warranty or not the fact is they are designed to have a long tread life. Right now I have 15,000 miles on mine, and they look like new. At their current wear rate they will last longer than the 40k warranty for sure.

Only downfall I can see is that in the size i had, they are E range and super heavy.. they do make them in D range though, and most likely in the size your looking for they would be D range not E.

I've got the Toyo Open Country A/T's on my '96 Tahoe. I'd say I've got about 25,000 miles on em and they still look new. Best tires I've ever had on the truck....

I've put it in mud a few times and they werent half bad, not mud tires, but i didn't get stuck either. Only downside is...not that aggressive looking, but are the looks or performance more important?

I went with the 305/55/20 load E ranged A/T's on my truck. I have close to 2000 miles on them and they show no wear at all, best tire IMO.

Well it looks like i am going to put the AT's on, although i really do prefer the look of the M/T's

I'll be putting on p285/70/r17's and getting my truck leveled and aligned all at the same time, the Tires are costing me 240.00 Installed and Balanced plus tax for each and the alignment is 69.00 for a total cost of roughly 1153.00 CDN

I could go with the LT but i don't see the point for the extra weight, The P are give me around a 3000 lbs load, which really is more then enough for me, I don't put a lot of weight in my truck and i am only towing a 14 foot fishing boat

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
