4wd Switch Has A Mind Of It's Own!

Like most folks I usually run around in 2wd mode. Every once in a while upon restarting my truck I noticed that it has gone to Auto 4wd mode by itself. It only seems to do this after I turn the truck off and restart it later that day, and it never changes on it's own while driving.

 

I am not getting any fault lights for this.

 

Any ideas..?

The most common issue for you model year is the encoder motor sensor. If you can, get the code read... if its C0327, id put money on that sensor needs to be replaced. (about $70 in parts and 1-2 hours of work depending on how handy you are)

 

Another common cause is the actual dash switch needs to be replaced... but thats more for pre-2003 model years (GM supposedly fixed that issue beginning in 2003.... but there are some lingerers)

Yes, it can read those codes. It's been a while but i believe it gives you the option of Engine, Trans, Troubleshoot... choose Trans... (if you can't find it, just ask someone who's done it more recently ... but i know for a fact that the Modis can read those codes because thats what i used to use )
